June 24, 1763, Fort Pitt — Today the British soldiers, besieged inside Fort Pitt, attempted to infect their Indian attackers with the smallpox virus. Since the beginning of the month, a powerful force of Indians have surrounded the fort and cut off relief to the 550 soldiers and civilians crowded inside the compound.
