Fort Prince George

Sunset, South Carolina

Fort Prince George was a South Carolina colonial militia fort, also known as Fort Keowee, located at the old Cherokee village of Keowee. The fort had four bastions, with the commandant's quarters, barracks, storehouse, kitchen, and guardhouse. The fort was rebuilt in 1756 and 1765 and attacked by Cherokee in 1760. The fort is now underwater, but a mulberry tree that is said to have been planted in the fort, stands near the site of the fort, located in Keowee-Toxaway State Park, South Carolina.
