HISTORICAL SITE DETAILS

Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon, Virginia

The Mount Vernon estate was George Washington's principal residence for more than 40 years. Currently, 12 original structures, Washington's Tomb, several period-style gardens, and a living-history site devoted to Washington's agricultural practices are enjoyed by some one million visitors a year. Visitors usually spend between 2-3 hours touring the original buildings, gardens and grounds. A state-of-the-art museum and multimedia education center opens in October 2006. There also exist two major shops, a food court, and a tavern-style restaurant.
