HISTORICAL SITE DETAILS

Fort Cumberland

Cumberland, Maryland

Fort Cumberland was built in 1754. Braddock’s army spent a month in the spring of 1755 gathering supplies. The fort came under fire of Indian raiding parties. The fort site is covered with housing, but there is a walking trail with 28 plaques telling the fort’s story. Visitors can view a model replica of the fort and tour tunnels from the former fort in the church located across the street from the fort site.
